David Marshall steps in to face Jorge Lopez at Tachi Palace Fights 10
After injury forced Strikeforce veteran and high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu wizard André Galvão (5-2) out of a featured Welterweight scrap with Wand Fight Team prospect Jorge Lopez (10-1) on July 15th, which was scheduled for Tachi Palace Fights 10 on August 5th, officials were left publicly asking for a fighter to step in.
Well now, someone has been found and confirmed as Galvão's replacement.
Tachi Palace Entertainment Co-ordinator Jeremy Luchau today announced that Strikeforce veteran David Marshall (8-2) has agreed to step in on two weeks' notice to face Lopez at the TPF event, headlined by a Flyweight Championship bout between two top-five fighters in champion Darrell Montague and challenger Ian McCall.
Lopez is coming off of a dominant win in his last bout at Tachi Palace Fights 9, defeating well-travelled veteran Waachiim Spiritwolf via unanimous decision, taking a 30-27 on all three cards. Under the tutelage of Wanderlei Silva, Lopez has earned 4 stoppage victories in his 11-fight career, with his only loss coming via split decision in 2007.
Marshall, on the other hand, looks to get back in to the win column on short notice after losing a decision to top Strikeforce prospect James Terry back in October at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2. A skilled submission artist, Marshall holds 6 submission victories to his name, five of which by triangle choke.
As of now, the event is set to stream live on Sherdog on August 5, 2011. Past cards have streamed on both Sherdog and MMA Junkie.
